Welcome to the barn and farmhouse at Root River, 12 Minutes from Downtown Milwaukee, on the Oak Leaf bike trail. Established in 1893 by immigrants (Meissen, Germany, 1880) Christian & Anna (Wollke) Stelzner. Once an 80-acre, 23-dairy cattle farm with vegetable gardens, it was sold to the US Government in 1936 for the land to develop the Village of Greendale. In 1955, the barn became an International Hostel, and was used as such until the early 2000's., and the farm house then became housing for NCCC volunteers until about 2016. It is now being remodeled with the vision of serving as a guest house (bookings open), oasis to Oak Leaf Trail users and event space.
The community has proposed many ideas for the future uses of this farmstead and we are now accepting inquiries for rentals for future occasions. The farm house is now opne, and the barn is anticipated to become operational in Summer of 2024.
We are now accepting inquires for gatherings. Call or email for a tour.
